Chapter 01
What fit actually means on a suit
A suit that fits does a few specific things at once. The collar of the jacket sits flat against the collar of your shirt, with no gap and no roll. The shoulder seam ends exactly at the point of your shoulder, not draped past it and not pulling short. The sleeve falls clean, without excess cloth bunching at the elbow, and the trouser break sits where you want it, whether that is a soft break at the shoe or none at all.
Off-the-rack suits are cut to an average body, so they rarely get all of that right at once. Gregory checks each point on the form before touching a seam.

The shoulders are the hard part of any suit, and the first thing Gregory checks, because a shoulder seam is difficult to move once a jacket is finished. Hems, waist and sleeve length are comparatively easy, and usually come last, once the shoulders and chest are settled.
Chapter 03
Getting ready before the event
Book the first fitting early, especially ahead of a wedding or a work event with a fixed date. That leaves time for a second look if anything needs another pass, and for a final press before you wear it.
